Failure cases caused by failure to follow the RO membrane installation steps

2025-06-03

In previous projects, we often encountered cases where failure to follow the Ro Membrane element installation steps caused failures and caused the performance of RO membrane elements to decline.

①Forgetting to set the thrust ring for fixing the RO membrane element

The membrane element flows when the raw water enters and exits the RO membrane element inside the container. If the thrust ring is forgotten to be installed, the membrane element frequently moves back and forth inside the pressure vessel, which will cause the sealing ring to be in an unstable state, resulting in poor sealing and a decrease in desalination rate.

②Forgetting to install the O-ring and connector in the container: Forgetting to install the O-ring will cause the desalination rate of the entire system to decrease.

③Wrong use of lubricant when installing the membrane

When installing the membrane element, please use silicone grease to lubricate the O-ring to prevent damage. Never use organic lubricants such as vegetable oil, which may cause the water collection pipe to rupture. It is recommended to use lubricating products specified by the membrane manufacturer. Glycerin is not recommended in high-pressure Seawater Desalination equipment because its lubrication effect is not long-lasting and may increase the risk of O-ring wear.

④ Cracks in FRP container installation

When the FRP container is installed on the equipment rack, if it is directly fixed with a U-shaped strap without installing a buffer material, it may cause cracks in the pressure vessel. During operation, the expansion and movement of the FRP makes the FRP container at the U-shaped strap fixing point at risk of damage.
