Automatic Multimedia Sand And Gravel Water Filter For Irrigation Systems
How it works
The multi-media filter filters through the layers of different filter materials to achieve the step-by-step removal of impurities in water:
Step filtration: Water flow from top to bottom or from bottom to top through the multi-layer filter material, large particles of impurities are first intercepted by the upper filter material, small particles of impurities are captured by the lower filter material.
Deep filtration: The gaps between the layers of the filter material form complex filtration channels that can capture smaller particles.

Composition of filter material
The filter material of a multi-media filter is usually composed of the following materials, arranged in layers from large to small by density and particle size:
(1) Gravel layer
Location: Bottom floor.
Particle size: 5-20mm.
Functions:
Support the upper filter material to prevent the loss of filter material.
Distribute water evenly to avoid bias.
Filter large suspended particles.
(2) Quartz sand layer
Location: Middle layer.
Particle size: 0.5-1.2mm.
Functions:
Filter suspended matter, sediment, colloids and other medium particle impurities in water.
Protect the upper fine filter material and extend its service life.
(3) smokeless coal seam
Location: Upper level.
Particle size: 0.8-1.8mm.
Functions:
Filter smaller suspended matter and some organic matter.
Due to its light density, the upper layer improves filtration efficiency.
(4) Activated carbon layer (optional)
Location: topmost layer (add as needed).
Particle size: 0.5-3mm.
Functions:
Adsorption of residual chlorine, organic matter, odor, chroma and so on.
Improve the taste and smell of water.
Strengths
Efficient filtration: multi-layer filter material combination can remove impurities of different particle sizes.
Wide range of application: can be used in industrial, municipal, household and other water treatment scenarios.
Stable operation: reasonable distribution of filter material layer, uniform water flow, stable filtration effect.
Easy maintenance: Support backwash, filter material can be reused.
Application Scenarios
Industrial water treatment: used to pretreat industrial wastewater or process water.
Municipal water supply: used to remove suspended solids and sediment from tap water.
Pool water treatment: Keep the water clear.
Household water purification system: acts as a pre-filter to protect subsequent equipment (such as reverse osmosis membranes).
Design essentials
Filter material selection: Select the right combination of filter material according to water quality and treatment objectives.
Filter layer thickness: the thickness of each layer of filter material should be reasonably designed according to the size of the equipment and the water quality.
Flow rate control: The filtration flow rate is usually 8-12m/h, too high will affect the filtration effect.
Equipment material: According to the processing medium choose carbon steel, stainless steel or fiberglass and other materials.
Multi-media filter vs activated carbon filter
| Features | Multi-media filter | Activated carbon filter |
| Key features | Removal of suspended solids, silt, colloids, etc | Adsorption of residual chlorine, organic matter, odor, etc |
| Filter material composition | Gravel, quartz sand, anthracite, etc | Activated charcoal |
| Application scenarios | Pretreatment.industrial water treatment, municipalwater supply | Drinking water treatment, odor removal |
| Maintenance methods | Backwash and replace the filter material regularly | Back rinse and replace the activated carbon regularly |
Sum up
Multi-media filter is an efficient and stable water treatment equipment, which realizes step-by-step filtration through the combination of multi-layer filter materials, and is widely used in industrial, municipal and household fields. Its design is reasonable, easy to maintain, can effectively remove suspended solids, sediment and colloids and other impurities in water, is an important pretreatment equipment in water treatment system.
